During the dry period my laurel hedge started to loose some leaves..they turned brown and fell off..i know it should have been watered but the hedge is 150 metres long...
I cut the top of the hedge earlier in the summer after the first growth(Just a few mill) to encourage it to thicken up..it thickened the top bit but now the middle is thinning out due to the dead leaves..
Do I have to cut it back hard now to thicken middle again?

I would leave it alone for now. Let it recover naturally from the drought.

Yep do nothing now especially if it's a young hedge, early spring is the time to cut it back if you want it to thicken up, it's never a good idea to cut a hedge when it's in full growth.
