Medical Card confused

My daughter has a medical card, as have I. She went at the beginning of the year with tooth pain (wisdoms) and had the extractions at Tullamore hosptal, all good.

She went back today with more pain, it is her upper wisdom tooth, referred once again . But, she had to pay €25 for the consultation. Is this correct? Is it not covered by the medical card?

    Extractions should be covered
Was she referred as a dental exam maybe - only once a year is free.

She went this morning due to pain, made the appointment yesterday, dentist confirmed it was yet another wisdom tooth and has referred her to have an extraction, and then charged her €25 for the visit.

The extraction is free with Med card, but second visit/examination in the same calendar year is not, hence the charge. Dentist is not paid by HSE for today's visit, only the one earlier in the year.

Not the most satisfactory system for the dentist or the patient.....
