SMAC-1 CO carbon monoxide alarm

Hi. I have several of these - hot wired with back up battery. One started beeping a week ago and another this week. In both cases I removed the alarm replaced the battery and reattached alarm to power. I tested the units before and after reattaching to the ceiling. But the beeping - about every 90seconds continued. At one stage when I reattached the alarm, all the CO alarms in the house began ringing continuously for a minute and then stopped.

There is no CO detected by a separate 'battery only unit'.

I have now disconnected the two rogue alarms.

I did not switch off the electric power on the trip switch when doing the battery changes.

The alarms were installed three years ago during a rewiring of the house.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you verify that the "rogue" units are getting mains power.
May also be worth checking the sensors are clean, it is recommended to vacuum smoke detector sensors to remove dust, so it may be worth trying.

Thanks very much. Yes power is going to the units. I just vacuumed them and unfortunately the problem remains. I am.now.awaiting a response from the manufacturer. One of the units is in the utility room.so I know humidity may be an issue there but the other unit is on an upstairs landing. They don't appear to be made anymore -so I may resort to a battery only in the utility room - and test monthly.

Did you ever figure this one out?

I'm having exactly the same issue, one started to beep on Sunday night which I pulled the power and removed the batter as it was 4 in morning. I replaced the 9v battery and reconnected power on Monday afternoon and power indicator came on and hit test button until it and others sounded but it continued to beep every minute again, I replaced with another new battery, powered again and tested, same again, beeped every minute thereafter so I took it down again and removed battery. This morning at 6am a different alarm, exact same type on the first floor landing started to beep. I have now just replaced the battery, repowered and pressed test button but it too is beeping every minute still. I have no manual and I can see that it recommends some particular batteries on the alarm but would have thought Duracell or Energizer 9vs would do the job. Waiting for the rest to go now....

Didn't solve it. I disconnected them and have battery only ones in their place. Meant to have a another go at solving it again but didn't ..yet.
