Golden Discs on Henry Street are having a big closing down sale on their stock of BluRay / DVD / Xbox 360 / PS3 (not 4) / Wii (!) / Nintendo DS (!!)

10 of anything for €10, including boxsets

Picked up some nice BluRays / DVDs and a copy of Borderlands : The Pre-Sequel for Xbox 360.

Not a bad haul. Loads of DVDs left.

Worthless stuff. DVDs has no value anymore.

Movies, games, music etc. moved to the clouds nowadays.

Worth a tenner to people happy to pay a tenner.

The quality of BluRays cannot be compared to streamed content. Always buy my favourite flicks on BluRay.

Also the collection looks excellent in your bookshelf :)

    Thanks OP.

You might get the odd dvd you would watch and some value for a tenner.

But most of this is pap. Maybe worth 50 quid a hundredweight

Not the ones I got. Spent a good few mins and ended up with a nice haul that will show off the 55" :)

Barely a few. Nothing you'd want anyway. Lost, one season of downton abbey etc.

You may get a few old Bond films, the odd film from the 70s or 80s like Jaws, die hard etc. The odd John Bishop, Des Bishop show etc.

Yeah. It was supposed to only be a pop up shop, but they ended up staying a bit longer.

New stock arrived today so there might be more coming.

I popped in around 530pm and the blue ray selection was awful - I'd say earlier shoppers got the best deals :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,231 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

BluRay selection yesterday wasn't great but good this morn.

Did you ask if they were getting more stock in?

I was in there a few days ago, nah, it was always piss poor.

If you get in early after they replenish stocks you get good BluRays, but in general it's more likely you'll get what you're looking for in DVDs

Be sure to check if/when they are adding more stock, then head on over for lunch. Any later and the good stuff will be nabbed I reckon.

The Apple 4K streams are better looking that Blurays in my opinion.

I think you need an Apple TV for that? Also probably need to pay a premium rate for home internet to stream 4K.

I'd rather save the cash and buy a blu ray for €1 ;)

Do they have any vhs or tape cassettes?

Still clinging on to my old Sony walkman and Hitachi VCR.

Sure the quality's grand through the scart on my Mitsubishi black diamond

Was there much (if anything) left when you were in? I picked up a couple of things yesterday that I was looking for on DVD (Irish movie Cal being one of them) but I mainly bought kids DVDs for other people tbh!

I’m old enough to have seen The Lawnmower Man in the cinema.

The Wyle E Coyote and Daffy Duck DVDs are just the original Warner Brother cartoons for each 'artist'. Stick one on for 5 mins before your main feature, to give you that pre 1990 trip to the cinema feel.

I'm old enough to have tried one of those original VR headsets shown in the flick. They had them in Piccadilly Circus, London.

Few bits you'll go in and find a few then dig for the rest to make up 10.

Lol, I remember those! I haven't revisited Lawnmower Man though I liked it at the time. I wonder how it's aged? I have it somewhere....must dig it out if only to see a pre-Bond Brosnan with his Navan accent (ok, he doesn't have the accent).

I had 9 in my hand including 2 cds but I ended up just putting my bunch on a shelf and walking out in a fit of pique.

Went in for a look as I was passing. Bought Lawnmower Man (again, I have it already) as it's a different release (2 Disc Director's Cut) to the version I own. Can't wait to see how dated it looks when i eventually get around to watching it in about 7 years.

There's still a shop full of stuff, it's just a lot of rubbish to scan through. €10 for ten of anything in store if you can find 10 things worth buying.

First time I was in I didn't even see the CDs as they are tucked away down at the back of the shop. Mostly rubbish though.

BluRay selection is very limited - Twilight & Hunger Games variants mostly.

Lots of DVDs - Everything is dispersed around the shop so you'd have to browse. Includes comedy, documentary, TV shows, lots of Twilight & Hunger Games. Very few boxsets as far as I could tell.

Videogame selection is poor. Lots of DS, lots of PS2, plenty of Wii, few PSP, little or no 360 or PS3.

You'll also get a crick in your neck looking sideways at all the DVD titles :)

There’s nothing (decent) left in there and inside the store is hotter than the sun.

    Don’t bother.
