Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Algarve advice needed

Booked flights for the last two weeks in September to Faro, no accommodation booked yet. Never been to the Algarve before. Initially looking at Albufeira but not sure where to stay.
Old town seems nicest but is it as hilly as people say. New town flatter but will it full of party animals then?
Open to other Algarve suggestions, only criterion is not too far from Faro, near a beach, not too lively but not too quiet either and good public transport options.
    Thanks in advance.

wont be too many party animals in september. ideally get some place between old town and new town. old town is smashing.some good spots up on the strip as well though.

Paladim and Alagomar are ideal, both hotels have combined now & the location is excellent, anywhere in this area would suit as only 20 mins walk to old town & near supermarket & bus stop

Don't go near new town if you want to avoid "party animals". IMO new town is only good for one thing - Cheap drink. Very few nice restaurants there. Old town is lovely for drinks and food and is very laid back and much more peaceful. Still has a good buzz in the air but not a party place.

I've been to lots of places on the Algarve and Lagos is the best spot in my opinion, great bars, restaurants and beaches. Very lively but not in a party animal sense

Olhos de Agua, just back from 3rd year there. Brilliant spot, everything on your doorstep and only a bus ride to Albufeira, which in my opinion is a kip.

Go east of Faro. It's much nicer and more of a Portuguese feel.

Just back from Tavira and would really recommend it. Got the bus to Faro or you could get a Taxi for €12 and then went on the train 45 mins €3.25 each.
Lovely place with lots of nice restaurants and things to do

Ended up going here in the end, thanks for the tip. Location was perfect, 5 minute walk to the beach , restaurants and supermarkets. Got a gorgeous spacious Airbnb apartment for 45 euro a night. Highly recommend, 10 minute bus ride to Albufeira, 25 minutes to Villamora.
