We are getting work done and asbestos was found in the lean to roof.

Contractor has priced getting rid of it and replacement rood.

The lean too cant bee seen from the front but shares a boundary wall with next door.

I assume that I'll have to speak to next door about raising the roof up approx. 500mm based on the contractors sketch.

What is the norm in these situations? Do I have a 'right' to build up on my side of the wall?

If it's a boundary wall then you'll need agreement from the neighbour. I'd also pay attention to what he has on his side - if it's painted or plastered, then you should arrange to do the same decoration to the new section of wall at your expense.

    Any pictures?
Is it possibke the roof can be emoved and replaced without touching the shared wall?

I dont have any photos but this should show what the contractor is thinking.

    I've added a few mark ups/questions.

Our architect is looking for 2.4m head height in there as it will have a utility room and a few other things built over time.

It's doesn't have to be done, but I can see why it's a good idea.

If there's already a lean-to there I can't see why a neighbour would be bothered about another 500mm. Capping it off gives a nice finish, and with more height the neighbour might be thinking about their own extension.

If she says no its just replace like with like. She doesn't appear to be too friendly but I think thats because she likes to keep to her self. There is no overlooking but there is a side door and a window to a toilet on her side.
