Health Records - access denied due to consultant 'on holiday'

    Hi there,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post this in. I am writing to see if anybody has any advice.

My other half recently has had a plethora of medical issues - one of which resulted in a sudden collapse and was taken by A&E to CUH in Cork. They diagnosed the issue as a 'standard faint/vasovagal syncope'. However, they discovered an abnormal ECG showing potentially enlargement of the heart. My partner was then re-admitted on a seperate occassion to a private hospital's cardiac care centre for further tests and evaluation due to pains in the arm. The ECG again confirmed an abnormality in the heart (same issue) - they put him on a holter monitor for 48 hrs which was clear and they followed up with an echo. The echo indeed showed signs of enlargement and so he was referred to have an MRI of the heart.

The results of the MRI came in 2 weeks ago but the consultant is on a 6 week holiday. My partner is beyond himself with worry and anxiety and the staff at the given private hospital have not arranged (WILL NOT) to allow him to see another consultant for the results given that his original consultant is on holiday and cannot consent to another doctor taking over the case.

I understand that there are procedures but at the end of the day, in my partner's mind, he may have some serious heart condition and his results are being withheld due to his consultant's extended holiday. He has begged them to give the results, to offer his own consent for the results to be given by another cardiologist but to no avail.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Would your GP have them?

Can the radiology department send the results to the GP and give him a copy of the disc so that he can be seen elsewhere? The hospital's hands are tied on the matter of transferring his care..as a private patient in a private hospital there is no team of doctors, he is a patient of Doctor Y and there is nobody other than doctor Y who can make calls on his care. The only other way would be through that hospital's A&E department if they have one as they would have a cardiologist on call but that would really only be a good idea if he is having symptoms.
