Rear wheel alignment check - cost?

Our Leaf is approaching the end of its warranty so I want to get the rear axle checked and sorted out - if it needs sorting - before then.

Phoned Atlas and asked how much just for a rear wheel alignment *check*, nothing else. €65. Sounds a bit expensive, as I'm reading people were able to get 4 wheel actual alignment done for around the same.

Anyone any nuggets of wisdom, or suggestions for places to go?

Rear wheel alignment and 4 wheel alignment is the same.
    €65 is normal.

Ideally you want to get a place that checks for the slip test as per the NCT test procedure. See if it passes that. If it doesn't, and it fails on the rear, then there's no adjustment so go straight to Nissan and tell them it has failed the Pre-NCT slip test.

You can't actually do a 4 wheel alignment to a Leaf per se (although Kearys in Cork charged me for it before I knew that!) as its rear axle is a torsion beam. For a check, I'd expect ~€30 if buying tyres as well, so ~€60 without may not be off the wall.

BTW note Nissan won't do the rear axle fix unless you actually complain re tyre wear etc - they did a check on mine showing the rears were out, but said nothing until I brought it up with them months later.

I've recently gone through Nissan for the rear axle fix, although I was out of warranty so only got goodwill rather a complete fix free of charge.

    The process was :

Called Nissan to state I failed the NCT on rear slip test.
Told them I went to reputable garage to have alignment fixed.
garage told me they cannot align rear axle.
In to Nissan. They done a 4 wheel alignment check which confirmed rear was out.
    Nissan IRL offered goodwill.
    Got it fixed.

Now I knew the process before and I knew what had to be done, but I still had to go through the Nissan channels etc

total cost to me was €301 but at least its done now.

Considering you are under warranty, if its out, it should be done for free.

I'm aware of that. I want to get it checked before the warranty ends as I want to get it fixed under warranty if it needs it.

That's the thinking, but I first need to see is it out. When I got the car first one of the tyres was noticeably unevenly worn, but all the tyres had been regularly rotated. I replaced the back two and they seem to the naked eye to be wearing evenly, making me wonder if the car has already had the work done.

I didn't notice any tyre wear on mine and it was out.
Maybe start by telling Nissan you've replaced the rear tyres twice this year and you think the alignment is out but when you went to a local garage, they stated that the rear is a torsion beam and it cannot be aligned.

They will book the car in for alignment and if its out, then you start the warranty process. If its within spec, then you have a record of Nissan testing it and confirming its ok should you fail the NCT in the future.

    When is your warranty up?
    When is the NCT due?

About 2 months left on the warranty. NCT isn't due for 14 months or so.

    Get moving.

I farted about for mo this and ended up running out of warranty. Badgered Nissan into a good will repair but they only covered the part, I had to pay £300 for the labour.

My alignment with report cost me £35 if I remember correctly.
