Just looking of a bit of advice. The company I work for renovated a house last year, it does fall under the HRI scheme and we are a 'qualifying contractor'.

The client has only now asked me to submit all the info to Revenue, but when I go to do this it says "Input works before any work starts" the job was around this time last year is completed now.

Also it then says "Input payments within 10 days of receipt".

When I input the work I did put in the correct dates, do you think it would be ok to put all the receipts down as today?

    Thanks

What do you mean by OK?
    Lie.
If you care about your own ethics and your job, just tell them they are too late.

In passing, are you going to key in both sides?
    House owner and contractor:

No I won't be doing anything on the house owner side, just the contractors side. From the contractors side I have to put in two transactions - record the job, and then record the payments we received.

I have read other stories on here from the consumers side and once they pushed the contractor enough they finally did record the work with Revenue. So I was hoping to hear from a subcontractor that submitted a late return how they went about it.

If you input the true dates and the claim is declined, then you and the owner are not entitled to the HRI.

If you input incorrect dates in order to make it accept the claim, then you/the owner are claiming a credit you are not entitled to.

I wouldn't go messing around with dates just to please a client. If the claim is out of date then it's out of date and the client should have got their arse in gear at the time.

I called yet another revenue department today and was given yet another phone number to try. If I hear nothing I think I will just input it at the dates we did receive payment from client and see how he goes from there.

He keeps telling me "I spoke to revenue and they said you can do it" I've said to them there are so many offices and departments can you please tell me which department you spoke me. He just comes back saying just do it. If there is a helpline and he has found one I don't know why he won't give me the number!

If you call the PAYE or the Income Tax/Corporation Tax lines you should get an answer - depending on what your client does for living, these are the only two lines that would have dealt with his query so no matter what number he rang he would have been directed to one of these.

https://www.revenue.ie/en/contact-us/index.aspx - select the county and then ring either the PAYE or IT/CT lines. To be honest I think you might be able to claim it retroactively, but I wouldn't go messing around with dates just to please a client, especially one who would get you in trouble for a few hundred quid tax credit!

Anyway give them a try and see what they say.

What are you hoping to achieve by calling them? Enter the real dates and leave it at that. You are not going to get permission to lie about dates from Revenue.

Finally got an answer! I can put the payments in retrospectively and it will work for him in case anyone else finds themselves in this situation.
