Am i right in saying this remote has no IR Blaster but it uses an IR Relay? So if you want to use it in other rooms it wont work as you need another IR Relay?

My big gripe with the remote is just this.

I don't think that's true. This includes the hub so you can use it from another room. Remote connects to hub wirelessly

Yes I'm correct, specs say remote connects to hub using RF

I have mine controlling my TV soundbar xbox and mi box.
So hey Google watch TV and viola TV on.
With play music just soundbar Spotify on and default playlist plays.
Obvious stuff like play pause work perfectly for all inputs.
Hoping to add smart plugs next for lighting control via Google home

For control in other rooms I just use the harmony app on my phone or tablet

This works with Philips Hue apparently. Does that mean it acts as a hub for the lights? Or would it require a hub separately?

No you still need a Hue hub

So how does this work with Alexa and multi room? If I have an Echo in any room with a tv or whatever, can I control them through the Echo device even if the hub is in a different room?

You add devices to the Harmony then create activities like watch TV or play a game etc. Then when you link to Google home or Amazon you can tell Google/Alexa to tell harmony start activities, tell harmony play, pause, channel 1 etc

But does it work in different rooms? Does the IR signal work through walls ok?

Yes, It's radio frequency between the remote and the hub. The hub is IR and has IR blasters that you point at your devices

Great price. How does it compare to Logitech Harmony Elite?

Ah, so on doing a little bit of research, am I wrong in saying you'd actually need a separate hub in each room to control the devices in that room all linked together through the Alexa app?

Yes. I have 2x hubs and remote in sitting room and kitchen but i then realised I could only link one of them to my Google home. It may be the same using Amazon. I can get around this by using Stringify and adding flows to suit what I needed in the kitchen.

I think you are getting confusing answers to your questions.

If you have a hub in your sitting room you can use it to control IR devices in your sitting room.

You won't be able to IR blast from the hub in the sitting room to the TV in your bedroom so you would need another hub or IR blaster in the bedroom or whatever.

I've both the Elite (in living room) and the Ultimate (in bedroom).

Functionally they both do exactly the same.

But if you can stretch, then the Elite is a physically far nicer remote.

The layout of the buttons and screen makes far more sense, putting the most frequently used buttons directly under your thumb, rather then the screen which is rarely used.

It is bit heavier, which makes it feel more premium and it is narrower, so fits in your hand better. Feels far nicer IMO.

It is hard to explain as on paper they seem the same, but the physical design is so much nicer. It is like the engineers took every complaint about the Ultimate and fixed everything with the Elite.

Oh, and the Elite has dedicated buttons for Hue lights if you have them, I find those very useful.

But if the Elite is too expensive, then the ultimate will work fine too, just not as nice.

If you aren't in a rush, then the price often drops to around £130ish during various Amazon sales.
