    Hey All,

Apologies if this is in the wrong location (and for my ignorance on the matter!) but I wanted ask what to expect when purchasing a bog with the aim of turf cutting?

I've had a look online and haven't come across any for sale in my region so will get in contact with the local auctioneers as that's likely the best route?

In terms of buying bog to cut just for the house what should I expect?

I'm not sure how much land to be considering, what prices per acre to expect, and so on.

Is it easy to acquire small plots or is this unrealistic?

Would be great to get people's two cents on this stuff!

    Cheers

    Badger

People usually buy a plot of turf. Rather than the big itself.

    You should start there.

From what I remember from my very younger years the folks would rent the plot from the owner. The owner would cut the turf but then it was up to the renter to do the footing and all that and transport the turf home.

Nowadays they just purchase a couple hundred bags of turf for €3.20 per bag delivered. It easier on the back.

Probably didn’t answer any of your questions though, just reminiscing here.

Hahaha no worries. I know of some of the lads who do that so will be chasing up with them on this too!

Ya ask the auctioneers. Around here there a lot of bogs not used but not being sold either.
