Tbh culling the repeat offenders and regular footbathing is the most cost effective. Long time since we had something other than scald here tbh

I used it last year , turned out I had codd. It was a waste of money in my situation as it didn't do a thing . I'm culling hard now that I've weaned my lambs .

Used to use it here in the pedigrees and it worked well, ewes and lambs used to be indoors for a couple of months after lambing,
Crossbreds are footbathed regularly only, never had to cull a ewe due to lameness.
I'd say it helps never to let scalds get time to get infected.
My good footbath is on one of the farms that's leased so I bought Cormacs footbath, It's 10ft by 3ft and I find it very good and easy to get sheep into.

Do you just walk them through it or leave them standing in it?

Stand them for five minutes in it, Iuse Zinc sulphate so there's no point in just running them though with that, it has to be given time. I do them according as I dose them ie I put twelve in the bath and by the time I have the next twelve dosed It's time to let the one out of the footbath.......you could dose them in the footbath but you'd be drowned with all the jumping around they do or you'd get a splash in the eye

Can you fit 12 ewes in a 10x3 footbath? Didn’t think it would hold that many.

I was looking at getting a large plastic one. This one is the only decent sized one I could find. Approx 10x5.

In that space of time would it get a chance to work. Sure you’d have 8ewes/12lambs easily dosed in under 2 mins.

No I'd leave them the five mins, semi retired here so we don't mind waiting.
When we used to have 550 ewes. The other footbath I have is made of concrete, I just dug a 10ft by 12ft hole 9ins deep in the concrete yard and put a 3ins concrete floor and sides in it and set a few posts around it to hold the hurdles and it was a lot cheaper than anything else and it held 30 ewes or 40 + lambs but it needed two bags of zinc sulphate to flll it...about €70.
