Iceland is EV heaven

Arrived in Reykjavik yesterday evening. After 3 hours of walking I had spotted:

    5 Outlander PHEV
    3 Leaf
    2 i3
    2 eGolf
    1 Porsche Cayenne PHEV
    1 Chevrolet Spark
    1 Soul
    1 eUp
    Dozens of hybrids (mainly CHR)

Probably more than I would see in a week in Dublin - and Reykjavik only has 250,000 people!

My OH who has zero interest in EVs was even pointing them out.

Iceland has the cheapest electricity in Europe and the most expensive fossil fuels, plus high duties on ICE vehicles so no surprise that 13% of new cars are EV/PHEV.

Apparently Iceland doesn't have a good public charging infrastructure yet, but as people here keep saying, most charging is done at home and most Icelanders drive less than 40km per day.

Still watching out for the 1st Tesla...

    Edit:
Went for 20 minute walk and spotted an Ioniq, another Leaf, another i3, another Soul. Feels like I'm on an EV safari.

    Edit #2:
On 2nd day spotted an Audi e-tron. And a Model X! Have to stop mentioning them now or will be divorced ;-)

They are working on putting rapids on the ring road now with a bit of government funding.

Same in Portugal, currently sitting in my second uber EV today, a Leaf 30. Got a eGolf earlier. Strangely lots of Zoes here too!

Was in Bergen, Norway last week, every 3rd car were ev , load of Teslas and leafs, they have free tolls for ev drivers and owners save a fortune as they normally pay 2-4 tolls just dropping the kids to school and going to work.
