Dog day care opinions

Hi I am considering putting my dog into daycare. My dog would be on his own for 3/4 days a week on average from 7:30- 16:00 . I recently lost a dog, his companion. She was 19. He seems a bit depressed when left alone. There is a dog daycare close to my work place and am considering it for 1 day a week (8am to 5pm)

Does anyone use dog day care? How do you feel about it?

How old is your dog? Doggy daycare can be overwhelming at first for older dogs as they can be really busy.

    Where are u based OP?

    What age is your dog?

Personally I think doggie day care is great .. had my dog in one for years. He’s 13 now so sleeps all day so doesn’t need it.

That’s s what I would suggest or would it be possible to see how he’d get on with an older rescue?

No dog is just out in doggie day care for the day etc , you’ll need to do a 2 hour assessment.. this will judge how your dog is , temperament and reacts etc.. then the doggie day care will advise you if it’s beneficial for ur dog or not .. sure try it for the assessment and see what they say.

Personally I have used both doggie day care and a dog walker and to be honest if I had to choose one or the other I’d chose doggie care .. for me reasons being a more controlled environment, no chance of dog getting lost (happens a good bit) and all the dogs have been assessed (or should be in a decent play anyway) .. that’s just me.

Try the assessment op and see what comes back

Don't have personal experience of it as my own dog was lucky enough to always have someone at home with him, but my sister uses it for her dog.

I don't know how much of it is natural personality and how much is the day care, but I am always just baffeled when out with my sisters dog as every dog we meet is viewed as a playmate, no dog is seen as a threat. There's just no issues with her as she's so used to dogs.

My sister says she gets excited in the car on the days she's going there, and often trys to run back in when she's being collected so it definitely seems to be a positive experience all round for her!

Actually really good point here .. same for my guy he is really well socialized , nothing upsets / phases him - he is non reactive with other dogs and new situations - we bring him everywhere and he’s a dream to be honest .. maybe 50% personality and 50% decent socialization maybe I dunno

I used one in the past and I regret big time :( It just wasn't the right environment and it became very stressful for him... but was passed off as excitement rather than them telling me he wasn't happy there anymore. The level of care just went downhill in the place in the months leading up to them closing down and many other clients felt the same and didn't go back when they reopened under a new name.

I highly recommend Creedons in Cork. If your dog loves being around other dogs then it's a great experience for him! I find that it really tires my dog out too so he's very relaxed and content the next day as well!

Yeh, I think your dogs personality has to come into your decision, I wouldn't have dreamed of putting my own dog into it, he was a border collie, and had all the typical slightly neurotic traits which would have caused him to be miserable anywhere other than his own house with his own people.

My sister's dog is lovely, but sees the world through seriously Rose tinted glasses so was always going to love anything she was thrown into!

Unfortunately some cases are not as clear cut and a trial and errwr period may have to happen but just be confident that you know your dog best!
