The starter on our old DB996 has gotten lazy, it turns real slow for a bit and then bursts into life, but I know it’s just a matter of time until it dies completely.

Was considering getting a new high speed starter for her, donpeople find them good considering the extra cost and any recommendations for where is best to buy ?

Iskra are a good geared starter. Def worth getting over a standard one. I would get it from the local starter/alternator man. Probably be got online cheaper somewhere but the local guys are needed too.

+1. Bought local around that money for a 25+yr old deutz. One whip and she's away.
+1 on the local supplier bit too. He can't be there to repair a hose or have a replacement pto shaft or some other emergency part if he doesn't get the starter sale as well.

Has a glow plug, battery is fresh and new leads on battery.

Starter is just gone lazy and want to look abkut it before cold weather rolls in as it’s the feeding tractor.

Battery could be on the way out too. Cranking Amperage reduces a lot on old batteries.

You're looking for a geared starter the gearing actually reduces the maximum speed at the pinion which greatly increases the power of the starter motor and ironically allows the starter to crank a cold or heavy engine a lot faster . If you buy a replacement geared starter you will see that the motor is actually a lot smaller . They are a great job as is a good glow plug
