I am hoping to get some advise

I currently have a virgin TV and Broadband service I would like to cut the TV and just keep the Broadband

I have a sat dish with an octo LNB also which currently feeds two combo boxes in 2 bedrooms

I want in our main living room to be able to get Irish and English TV

I was considering an LG TV with sat tuner like this one

    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202917-400136.aspx#tabProductDetails-tab?swapstore=1

With this TV will I get the ability to series link record etc or would I be better of getting a Humax Freesat Box Like this

    https://www.freetv.ie/humax-1100s/

is it possible to have Irish and UK channels on one EPG etc

    Thanks for help

To get combined Saorview and Freesat you have to roll your own with a Linux combo box. Check out the Tiviar Alpha combo box, big thread about it here

No simpler way I'm afraid. It's no way plug and play and there's a learning curve. Also you need to setup Saorview based on your region. You must know someone tech savvy.

Ask in the Tiviar thread, there may be someone more local to you could assist

The need for a combined epg is becoming less of an issue due to the declining quality of programming on saorview.

TVs with freesat built in are an option for you as if you pair them with a saorview box or pair a humax freesat box with a saorview tv, you can quickly change the hdmi source from one box to the other.

In truth on demand/catchup tv is the future and epgs will become less popular.

    There is this...

    https://www.saorview.ie/connect

Gives you FTA satellite channels and saorview in one epg.
    Its plug and play.

But you cant record on it yet and only one of each tuner is enabled.
When you can record on it you will need a USB hard drive.

Its expensive compared to the Tiviar and its not as powerful.

I know nothing about enigma2 or setting it up.

Still I was able to buy the Tiviar, load “The High Horse Brigade” image” which was about as simple as it can be , and was up and running in no time.

Im in Celbridge ,not that far from you, Saorview area is Dublin Three Rock.

Saorview Connect has separate epgs with only a 7 day epg on saorview.

Not the immediate future it seems for large swathes of the country, with the apparent death of the NBP. ;)

Without high speed internet connection this is a non-runner for a family.

Do you get better than a 7 day EPG with anything ?

The connect box has 7 day EPG for Saorview but only now/next for FTA satellite channels.

What he means is the Saorview connect has no EPG on free to air satellite, just now and next. Only 7 day EPG on Saorview

Oh I see , even less value for money than I thought it was , and that wasn't great.
