Autism specialist in Dublin

    Hi there

I had a few consultations with a psychologist recently who suspected I fall on the milder end of the autism spectrum, but I'd like to get a second opinion from a specialist in the field. Could anyone recommend a good clinician to determine whether this is the case or not?

    Thanks

Prof Michael Fitzgerald in Dublin 15 does adult assessments. I've been with him twice with members of my family, adult and child, and found him really helpful. He isn't too expensive either.

You can find more information about diagnosis from ASIAM here (scroll down for the adult bit) https://asiam.ie/about-autism/diagnosis

ASIAM recommend Dr Emer Bowman, or Honan & Associates.

Dr fitzgerald at about €350 will be cheaper, you will be seen sooner, however, if you want a really robust assessment, with detailed report/feedback, then perhaps choose one of the others.

    Best of luck!

Dr Fitzgerald diagnoses EVERYONE that he sees with autism.

If you are going to see one of the four recommended psychologists for Adult Autism/ HFA/Aspergers, then you must be fairly sure of your diagnosis. There are an awful lot of hack psychologists in the third level education system who will let you pass with depression than recommend you get a proper diagnosis.

Even with a proper one it is near impossible to get a GP to acknowledge it. My psychologist had to come down from lofty heights to tear my GP a new one after she rejected his report. He put proper manners on her after she wrote me a new prescription for medication.
