Help with retrieving files from broken laptop

I have a Dell laptop, almost 5 years old. It started beeping intermittently on start up recently and wouldn't turn on. I was able to get it going a few times by removing the battery and holding down the start button for a minute before trying to turn on again but that's not working anymore. Local computer repair shop had a look and said the motherboard is gone, but that they will be able to retrieve all the files. Is there a way I can do this myself? I use it for self employed work and personal taxes as well as music, photos etc and just want to make sure I definitely get everything off it. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yeah should be straight forwardremovetge hard drive from the laptop. Should be able to get access to this easy enough.

Then you need a usb hard drive connector get these online cheap.

Then you plug the hard drive into this then into a working pc and you can browse to all your files.
