When you start some diesel engines with excess fuel buttons the excess fuel will not click out until you rev the engine thus leading to diesel smoke . Is it white smoke or black smoke .
Diesel engines should not and in my Yard must not be left idling .

Is it due a service? Fuel filter?
Stick a few bottles of dipetane through it
