Looking after the birds in the garden

I love waking up the the sound of the birds chirping at dawn.

I have three seed holders which I fill with seed every day in the morning. They're always empty in the evening. There's crows, blackbirds, starlings, sparrows, seagulls, wood pigeons and several others.

Would a basin of water be beneficial too (for drinking and bathing)?

What about a cooked chicken for the seagulls? Rats and vermin aren't an issue, my neighbour has about 13 semi-feral cats. I'm surprised the birds even come around with all those cats.

I've been told not to feed them because they'll grow reliant on me and lose the ability to forage and they'll overeat in the summer. Is this true?

Feed away. Seeds and nuts. Nuts should be in a wire mesh feeder. Don't put cooked chicken out. It's not needed and only attracts disease, vermin and cats. Water is almost more important than food. They do 't become reliant and benefit for the bit of help.

Keep feeders in the open, so birds can see any cats approaching.
