Condoms, Question?

I have an unusual question by nevertheless. Me and my partner enjoy a very healthy and enjoyable sex life. We use condoms as our only contraceptive, we have spoken about this and are happy for it to continue, I have never had a condom fail on me over the years. I am not happy for my partner to take the pill due to concerns for her health and she is also against it due to the weight gain it is likely to cause; we don't want to start a family yet for another 2 years.

We have been together now with a few months and since we started living together our sex life has really caught fire and I find that condoms are starting to cost a nice chunk of money and I was spending nearly €100 per month at the beginning until I ordered online and even then they are costing around 50c to 70c per Condom, with €1 per condom at Boots prices.

I remember around the Abortion referendum politicians were speaking about rolling out increased access to contraceptives and increasing availability. Did anything happen on this since?

As a man the only option for me is Condoms and I understand that my partner could get the Pill for free under the Medical card scheme, Is it possible to get a prescription for Condoms on the Medical Card? Apparently back in the 1970's and 80's the only way to buy condoms was with a doctors prescription before the country liberalised on the issue.

I went to the sexual health clinic recently and asked for free Condoms and lube I got six "Johnny's got you Covered" branded condoms from them. This was enough to last us less than half the weekend, me and my partner consume 100-150 condoms per month.

I'm just curious if there is anywhere to get free condoms or do I just have to keep buying them, but its a nice chunk of money I'd rather spend on something else each month.

    Mod:

OP, you need to ask a pharmacist or GP whether or not condoms are covered on a medical card.

I'm not leaving this thread open because it's going to be a magnet for people who will tell you exactly what they think of taxpayers funding your sex life consumables.
