Purchasing a Mulcher/Flail Mower

Has anyone got any recommendations for buying a Flail Mower? I only need something handy to use myself to mulch a few rushes - nothing fancy - thinking about a 5f machine. I've researched compact mowers that require low tractor HP such as Rinieri or McConnel. There is also a Katana heavy duty Flail Mower. Anyone have any experience with any of the above before I make a decision? Or know of a model that may suit me? Thanks

    My 2c

    1. Read this thread https://touch.boards.ie/thread/2057505057/1

    2. Cut them with a disc. Don't worry about the mess, they'll have rotted away next year

    3. Weed wipe or spray the fresh new growth

    4. Lime, 10-10-20 and improve drainage if possible

    Repeat as necessary

The other option is spend loads of money on a flail mower, loads of money on diesel, loads of time driving in very low gears, all to have the same effect

We have one. Unless u are going contracting dont buy one. We used it to clear up some rough ground last year and a smaller bit this year.
    -Sore on diesel
-if rushes are heavy they leave a fair covering on the ground
    -unbelievably slow to mulch.
-not good for topping grass (slow regrowth)
    -they hate stones
-They are fantastic for whins and small tree's and leave them in dust even things as thick as your wrist

If I was to go again I would gave bought a new disc mower.

If you hire in a contractor to do it they usually leave the back open so they are only half mulched.
