What channels are you looking for?

IPTV is not a single 'product', the term encompasses any TV service you get delivered to you via your home broadband i.e. not from cable, terrestrial or satellite.

Examples available in Ireland include Now TV, Eir, Netflix and Amazon Prime.

    all the premium sky channels

Now TV is your only legal option for that. You can pay either weekly or monthly (and even by day for some passes).

I'm almost scared to post a reply here. What are posters allowed say here, and what are they not allowed to say?

    p.s. IPTV is great :D

Basically you can’t talk about any service that’s pirating content. So if someone is offering you Sky Sports or recently released films for free or a very cheap price, then you can’t talk about it.

It’s okay to talk about - and this is not an exclusive list - Eir Vision, Vodafone TV, Now TV, Netflix, Prime Video, RTE Player, 3player, All4, Sky Go, VirginTV Anywhere, etc

I have cancelled my Sky and I'm looking for an alternative not free or illegal but I would love if someone pointed me in the right direction.

Iptv is pretty good, but you have to have really good broadband. I have 145 speed, but the IPTV download still sticks and loses sound at times which is very frustrating when you are watching a film/live sport.

It all depends on where you are located and what your broadband speed is. If you want the premium sky channels and no 'box' subscription then your only option is now TV.

Speed is not your issue there I reckon. You can run IPTV using much slower internet than that. 20 meg gave pretty good results.

TV is high spec Samsung 1 year old, connected by Ethernet to modem, IPTV still stops for buffering and when it does, I check download speed using Speedtest by ookla and there is no drop off so not a bb/dl speed issue, I think issue is IPTV itself.

Agreed. He should test a short sub with another provider to confirm.

Edit, might be the app that he's using on the TV too.

Is it possible to record a game if its pausing live and watch it later?

Using IPTV for about a month (Paying Monthly), so far so good.

By 'pausing live' I assume you mean buffering delays.

The box would need either an internal hard disk drive (HDD) or allow the attachment (via USB port) of an external HDD to record and watch later and it would be fairly prominent on the list of features. Boxes like Apple TV and Now TV can not record.

Some boxes may allow you to specify a large buffer which could help to smooth out delays on the line at the cost of a slower startup. That is already an option with internet radio apps.

Can anyone recommend a box that can be used to record IPTV?

    The box they're discussing here

    https://touch.boards.ie/thread/2057827739/1

You can use it for free to air channels and use it for iptv with full epg too. Add a hard drive and it'll record IPTV. Just get a decent IPTV supplier.

Yes buffering but if a game was recorded would it play without the pauses?

It's streaming live video over the web.

Any decent box will have a USB port to allow you plug in a harddrive to download. I've not seen any boxes with large drives as they are designed for streaming live TV.

Not necessarily. Buffering can get around the odd pause in the feed but it can only do much. If there's a poor connection with blackouts (the feed stops and resumes several seconds later) or elongated pauses in the feed (no loss of content) which fill up the memory buffers, you will lose sections of the feed, even if you record the entire program and do a playback.
