Question about Linux Boxes and EPG Data

Hi guys - its a quick question about linux boxes running Engima2

I understand that said boxes can download EPG data from the internet? or at least thats what i have gathered from watching several demonstrations - apparently its alo possible to have a Linux box that is able to stay current with regards to frequency changes

What i am wondering, is whether it is possible for said boxes, to download EPG data from the satellite, with no requirement for an internet connection.. is it also possible to have one that updates frequencies with no internet connection necessary.

My reason for asking is for a friend who is ditching sky, and has already switched to FTA/SAORVIEW - He is using an ARIVA Combo which is fine, bar the lack of a 7 Day EPG on the satellite side of things -

Really appreciate the help. Everywhere i look its all about Cross EPG downloading from the internet but my friend lives in a rural area - very little bandwidth, and he is unwilling to depend on the internet for that reason - thanks in advance

Sic semper tyrannis - thus always to Tyrants

Yes, you can download the EPG data from either Freesat or Sky via satellite with no need for an internet connection.

The ability to download the Freesat EPG in the background is built into the Openvix images - no intervention required. Simply power on the box and the EPG is populated automatically.

Not possible at present. But changes on the free to air channels are relatively infrequent.
