    Hi all,

I'm hoping that someone can help me here!

We moved into a house some time ago that has satellite/saorview. There is a box in the attic that sends the signal around the house to various rooms.

In the sittingroom, is where it also seems to send the "loop" around the house. It is connected to a Ferguson Ariva box for us to watch and then loops the signal elsewhere around the house.

I was painting last weekend and moved the wires. See photo attached.

The white lead on the left is the aerial into the back of the Ferguson for saorview. The 2nd left is the splitter for both freeview/saorview that goes into the back of the Ferguson for satellite (LNB in). This then forms the loop into the 3rd left that sends the signal around the house.

I have both saorview & freeview on the Ferguson and freeview in another room. But the saorview is lost somewhere as it is not being picked up in the other two rooms and I think it is because I have the leads in the wrong places.

I have tried all combinations that I can think of.

    Can anyone help??!!!

    Many thanks for any replies!

What is your location? Are you sure you have UK satellite channels (Freesat/free to air), or do you actually have UK terrestrial channels (Freeview)?

    456604.jpg

You say the second left splitter goes into the back of the Ferguson (Satellite LNB in). Are you certain it's going into the LNB in on the Ferguson, and not the aerial input? The photo doesn't show the output from the splitter going to the Ferguson.

Can you describe or take a photo of the label on the splitter?

Thanks a million; I will take a photo and post it up.

That splitter is just an 'ordinary' one, taking the place of the Sky box that would have been in the setup originally. You need to plug it into the socket that's providing the aerial feed to the Ariva. (The loop-out from the Ariva would do the same job, but is probably deactivated when in standby.)

The satellite feed to the Ariva, if there is one, must be separate from these sockets?

    Hi folks,

Thanks for replies.Maybe these photos will help explain

Photo 1 is the back of the ariva box.

Photo 2 is a close up of the back of the box and photo 3 is the splitter.

I can confirm that the lead on the extreme left in the original post photo runs directly to the antenna port on the back of the Aviva.

I would say that we have both saorview and freeview as we get all the regional BBC & ITV channels on the box upstairs as well as Horror, Challenge etc (we live in Co Louth).

    Thanks for all suggestions!!!

    Thurston,

I'm guessing that the satellite feed is one of the four ports on the wall. Because as it is, I'm getting both satellite freeview and sarview in the ariva box. My problem is that the saorview is not being sent via loop around the house as it was previously. I have freeview in other rooms but no RTE etc even though I have a box to receive them.

The socket on the extreme left is where the splitter needs to be.

An alternative, assuming the aerial feed to the main room passes through the attic, would be to connect this aerial feed to the distribution box, & have all the rooms fed from there.

Just to avoid confusion, 'Freeview' is UK terrestrial.

Also, confirm where LNB-in is fed from.

Have you any idea what the fourth wall socket is for?
Does it have wiring attached in the backbox?

The LNB-in is fed from the splitter. I have freeview as in the UK version if that makes sense?

Johnboy - I have no idea!! I always thought that the two ports on the "left" box were for the splitter and to put the short black cable to make a loop with one of the ports on the "right box". In other words, the splitter would go into one of the ports on the "left" box and the short black cable, by itself, would form an almost "u bend" by attaching it to the "right" box.

We moved into the house with this system but there are no real markings on the boxes to say what's what. I should have taken a photo before I painted but I forgot!! :(

First, so we are all clear what you mean

Freeview is the UK equivalent of Saorview .... terrestrial broadcast received from an aerial

Freesat and FTA Satellite are delivered via the satellite dish.

You do not 'split' cables coming from a satellite dish, but can split cables coming from aerials.
This is because a satellite tuner 'communicate' with the LNB on the satellite dish, and having two tuners connected to one LNB port will cause problems.

So you need to split the aerial feed providing Saorview, so that one of the outputs can be sent elsewhere.

I would suggest you do that ONLY, leaving other cables disconnected.
Test it to ensure you can get all the channels from the aerial everywhere, before moving on to doing the rest of the cabling.

    Thanks Johnboy.

I have free sat so - the UK channels are coming through the old satellite dish that is on the house.

    I will try that out!

:D well you have FTA Satellite as the set top box you are using is not a 'Freesat' branded product (Ferguson Ariva box). ...... yeah, I know, even more complications in terminology ...... the net effect is almost the same Freesat Vs FTA Sat.
I hope I have not confused things further :D

To say that I am hopeless with this sort of thing is an understatement!!

It's impossible to confuse me further!!

But i will try what you have suggested this evening and I'm very obliged to you and the other posters for your time and suggestions and for taking the trouble to help.

    It's very much appreciated!

Post a pic of the box in the attic, that might explain what way the signal is distributed.

As the UK satellite channels are currently working, then as mentioned above, remove the splitter from Socket 2 from left, and instead connect the white cable from LNB In directly to Socket 2.

Having done that, then confirm that UK satellite channels are still working.

It'll just be a distribution amplifier: would originally have been fed from RF2 on a Sky box, I would think.

I'd have my doubts you'd be getting a useful LNB feed from there.

The loop is for terrestrial signals only. It's like the kind of setup that would have originally involved a Sky box, which could combine the terrestrial aerial signal with a feed of whatever satellite channel was selected, that could be distributed to, & tuned in by other TVs as a terrestrial analogue channel.

The splitter has now taken the place of the Sky box, to close the loop, & provide an aerial feed to the main TV.

I am absolutely delighted to tell you that this has worked!

The "satellite" cable is in port 2 and from there runs directly into LNB in.

The "aerial" cable runs from the Ariva into the splitter and the "loop" cable also runs from the splitter into port 3 and around the house!!

Thank you to you all for your help and taking the time to reply. It is very much appreciated. Even though its only a TV query, you have all taken the trouble to assist so thank you all!!!

As we now have RTE back, we can now take the decision not to watch it as it is crap!!! ;)
