seems to be 3 packs of 4 blades - 12 blades for €8.99.

    too good to be true?

    Each pack includes four blades

It's an 18% discount on a bulk purchase of an overpriced and over rated item.

I'd say it's probably genuine alright.

I bought 4 the other day in SV for €4.49 . Now you get 12 for €8.99 plus €2.40 postage . Not much difference

Why did you ignore the postage?

    €1.12 v 95c per blade.

I didn't ignore the postage, I didn't even click the link to realise that there was a postage charge on top. Regardless of the postage 1..12 v 95c? That's a 16.5% discount.

Has bargain alerts really gone so pernickity that people now don't view a 16% reduction as a bargain?

    This right here.

I get my packs of 10 for a couple of euro and they do as good if not better job than the much more expensive branded ones.

The missus got one of those laser Phillips things for hair removal that flashes. Do not use it on your ball sack. Stick to a Gillette.

Eh? As in my missus has a ball sack? LOL? ok

But it’s not recommended for the flaps either apparently

I would actually consider myself saving €7 by buying locally in SuperValu.
4 blades could last me 12 months.

I've seen a few posters recommend the Lidl blades, are they really as good as Gillette? I've still got a few Gillette blades left from some Superdrug special offer last year, but I think I'll give the Lidl blades a go, should save me a good few quid in the long run

I bought 100 Voskhod's for 5 euros plus shipping on e-bay three years ago and I still have a few packs left. Would never go back to cartridge blade prices.

Three years later they still have them at that price, https://www.ebay.ie/itm/100pcs-VOSKHOD-RAZOR-BLADES-FREE-GIFT-extra-gift/201228682175?hash=item2eda2a03bf:g:4u4AAOSw44BYMDQj

Only bought them to try out last weekend, gave them to the OH as i didnt get great contact on my neck - it left a few patches,
she said her legs were all cut up after using one.

    Gone in the bin

You see a fair bit of budget blade recommendations, nothing compares to premium blades. It’s also dependant on your skin type and sensitivity, some lads are lucky enough to be able to use budget blades and be happy enough with the shave and not have the face ripped off them but for certain people it’s not an option. It’s no different to buying a premium kitchen knife, it’s a blade. Gillette’s not just some label brand, the shave their high end blades give are second to none and nothing I’ve used comes near them.

I got sucked into that bold king tat, all these fake Facebook reviews...absolute garbage, no better than those bic disposables, and they hook you into a recurring order so you get them sent every two months. Hard enough dealing with the f**kers to cancel it.

Been there & tried it, didn't enjoy the experience. Much prefer the convenience and speed of cartridge blades.

Haven't had a wet shave in ages, bought a pack of 20 Mach 3 in boots for 20 euro - can't believe how bad they shave. My memory of them were they left the skin smooth as a baby's bum - find myself going over the same area several times now.
    Have they got blunter?

DE blades are the best, they give the closest shave possible.Get a Safety Razor and Gillette 7'o clock sharp edge blades and you're sorted.

I just bought a Mach 3 razor and the blades felt blunt to me as well.Went back to DE Shaving.

Sometimes you'd buy a Gillette blade and they'd be crap, then another time you'd buy the same blade and they'd be great. You have to wonder if some knock off blades are making it into stores. 40ft containers of blades are coming in from China everyday.

Think I'm gonna be lucky to get 3 or 4 shaves from these ones - even with the first shave I could feel it tugging. Funny as on the packaging it says 30 weeks of shaves and I don't even have that heavy a growth.

DE blades are def where the value is at,
Since 2009 I've spent maybe 30e on DE blades, now thats good value!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,807 ✭✭✭Jurgen Klopp

The Aldi 3 blade cartridges are just as good as the Mach 3, Aldi not Lidl to be clear

    6 cartridges for €2.50 ideal

DE is also an excellent choice and very cheap you can get 100 blades for anywhere from €5 to €20

The only thing is if your the type of man that likes to just fire a splash of water on your face and then throw on your shaving cream you'll be in trouble. You need that bit of extra prep for your skin and beard hair, depending on the blade and razor

I have dry skin so wanted to get rid of canned creams and foam as they dry out my skin.

I switched to a brush and shaving soap and use the Aldi 3 blade system then the Boldking to shave the head, ideal

While I rate the DE razors, I find if I want a quick shave with the DE I have to use the lightest razor a Gillette tech, but it doesn't give as smooth a shave as a 3 or 4 blade cartridge like Gillette or the Aldi system

If I want the ultra smooth shave via DE I can use my aggressive Merkur Futur but by God you need to prep your face first or you'll feel it :p :pac:

But back in topic I'd highly recommend trying the Aldi 3 blade system excellent value think the razor plus 3 carts is €2.99 and a 6 cart refill pack is €2.50

I ordered 6 x 4 packs, got an order confirmation for the right amount then got an invoice for 2x4 at the full price.
Contacted groupon chat and they said they’d look into it and get back to me - NO REPLY
Delivery arrived today, wrong amount as expected, contacted chat again, useless, they can’t fix it just refund after I send it back.

First time using Groupon and last time. App is bad also, unresponsive and slow, it’s like they don’t want you to contact them. 😒

Did you guys not notice the pack number being displayed when selecting different amounts? Maybe it does not show on mobile or something. But when you click on 6 it shows 2x 4 packs. Click 9 and 3 x 4 packs are shown.

Of course it is very misleading and they are totally wrong to be selling like this, but I think it odd that the OP even was asking if this was legit and nobody else mentioned this.

I thought the scam would be that they are fakes being sold by a 3rd party, but it is groupon themselves.

    leptonite wrote: »

They should be paying the postage back. I would be getting screen grabs for your CC company if you have to resort to chargebacks.

DE blades are the best, they give the closest shave possible.
I never got the fascination with a close shave, I use a wahl professional "balding" razor on my face, takes about 20-30 seconds to have a shave. This is a head razor, I am not fond of traditional electric face razors -but they all take some getting used to for a while.

This - and unless they arrange either for a freepost return address or to arrange to pick them up then you are unable to return them and initiate a chargeback
Else you are gonna be stung for probably 5 euro postage (where did they come from? Ireland)

You use a plural there, they do not... Very subtle of course.

Again I am saying this is totally misleading, just playing devils advocate, and people should be refunded in full (including postage). If the OP had been in the consumer forum I have no doubt the skeptics would have been all over it -as they came in skeptical themselves asking if it is too good to be true.

I do not buy these blades so have absolutely no idea of the regular price. The very first 2 posters seemed clued in, but were (no doubt inadvertently) being as misleading as the ad
It's an 18% discount on a bulk purchase of an overpriced and over rated item.

I'd say it's probably genuine alright.
this guy seemed to had used the item, saying it is overrated. They also seemed to know the price it was 18% off and did not question why they were not saying it was far more than that percentage.
I bought 4 the other day in SV for €4.49 . Now you get 12 for €8.99 plus €2.40 postage . Not much difference
This made me think the regular price was 4.49, and was confirming the second poster.

If I had only read the first post when it was new I would have looked up the going rate on tesco & boots and seen that there is no way it was 18% off, and seen that 4.49 was not a regular price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭dball

I spoke to Groupon today via their online chat service.
I was offered a €7 groupon voucher to make up for the 2 packets that weren't delivered to me.
or a full refund - I asked who pays for postage and she send me a PDF with an An Post pre paid printout.

I'm not sure what option to take as Ill have no proof of postage if i send it

    Bastages

So i spoke to Groupon via CHAT today
I've received a €7 credit in my account for the non supply of blades.

I originally purchased a 3 pack of Gillette mach 3 blades for the sum of €8.99 & €2.49 postage
    So €11.48
    I received a €7 credit

So I'm off to buy another 3 pack today with my voucher
It will cost me another €1.99 & €2.50 postage
    That's (if i receive the next 3 packs) a total of €4.49

In total a spend of€15.97 for 16 blades
If it is delivered - its still good value.

Here is a transcript of my conversation - Groupon are some douche-bags

[ME] i received 1 pack of blades
[ME] i should have received 3 pack of blades
[Abrar A] Unfortunately we do not have the facility to arrange exchange or replacements at this time.
[Abrar A] Don't worry though, we won't leave you in the lurch. At this point there are two possible options.
    1) If you think you can live with the part of the order you received, I'm happy to add €7.00 in Groupon credit to your account, to cover the part that wasn't shipped. Groupon credit is available within 24 hours and can be used on almost anything at Groupon.ie

    Alternatively...

    2) You can return the item to us, and I'll be happy to process a full refund as soon as we receive it.
[ME] Please add the €7 credit to my account
[Abrar A] Sure, once added I will send an email to you.
[Abrar A] Would you like me to check anything else for you, today?
[ME] I see that these are still available on the site - can i re order the same package -
    [Abrar A] Yes, you can.
[ME] will you have the correct amount this time
[ME] will i receive 3 pack?
[Abrar A] Yes, it is not common error and we will make sure it is not repeated.
[ME] so why cant you just send me the 2 additional packs that I originally ordered
[Abrar A] Unfortunately as informed we do not have the facility to arrange exchange or replacements at this time.
[ME] when will i receive my credit?
    [ME] Will it be today?
    [Abrar A] Yes, correct
[Abrar A] I will send an email once added
[Abrar A] Would you like me to check anything else for you, today?
    [ME] no - thank you
