    Hi,

I want to get a water butt - I'm not good with the installation of things - ie needing accuracy for cuts etc!

I've held off getting one because I've no idea who would install one of them correctly.

Would anyone have any ideas on the type of tradesperson I should contact?

There's some guy (I found his website through a google search) who will supply and install a 200 litre for €135. Is that expensive, or what I should expect to pay for supply and fit.

    Thanks!!

a water butt should cost less than €50 - so you'd be paying about €80 for installation.
first thing to ask would be what sort of downpipes you have on your house - the diverter which taps into the downpipe assumes a certain downpipe size, so there is a chance you may not be able to install one.

for example, i had to completely replace my downpipe before i could install the butt - mine was an old cast iron downpipe which could not be cut.

It *shouldn't* be a problem, they were only replaced in the past few years. They're I think wavin (?) square pipes or very similar. Hopefully that aspect won't be a problem!!

    That sounds very expensive.

How much is the same butt separately? 30 0r 40 euro?

Do you know anyone handy? Give them €30 for doing it.

Neighbour/ friend etc with a few tools?

Woodies does a DIY kit for €70,but and connection / diverter.

If you are not confident, then €135 delivered and installed sounds very very reasonable.
Even DIY I'm not sure I can beat the 135 charge... can you post that chap's address !?

    woodies have a 210l one for €45 - i don't remember them *not* coming with a diverter.

Rockdesk - recently replaced square PVC pipes should be compatible with a diverter, but one issue with them is that they're often mounted flush to the wall, which prevents a diverter from being fitted; my father had this issue and couldn't install one.

I got a 210l one yesterday for 39.99 in local hardware shop. Woodies in my area did not have the one advertised despite website saying it was in stock.

It came with kit and all but I haven't looked at it yet, personally I wouldn't dream of paying someone to install it but I have tools etc and a little diy knowledge :)

Any family member/friend/neighbour good at diy?

Thanks everyone. Yeah I know someone who is a handyman, I’ll give him a shout. I wasn’t sure if there was a specialised area for installing it or not - I didn’t want to get someone and have them make a mess of the installation or the pipes!

Looks like its a complete pack -

But the details are a bit sparse:

They are big blasted things! Where I need to put mine it is totally in the way and blocking the footpath, I think I will have to get some sort of flexible pipe to attach so I can put it around the corner!
