Is Windows Defender enough on its own as an anti virus?

Is the Windows Defender that comes as standard with Windows 10 enough without running additional anti virus software with it like Avast?

Is there an option in Defender to run scans once a week like you would with Avast?

I'd rather just have one anti virus on my laptop as adding another to Defender will slow it down. I'm also using Malware Bytes scans once every few weeks and a cleanup with CC Cleaner the same.

Absolutely. Antivirus programs in 2018 are a total waste of time, money and CPU resources on a standard windows machine. Unless someone totally PC-illiterate is likely to use the machine (the kind of person that downloads random tool bars and clicks yes when popups ask to install things), Defender is perfect.

Defender scans whenever it feels is necessary and will tell you when it thinks another one would be a good idea.

Was told almost exactly the same thing by a computer tech this am.

Windows Defender is more than a baseline defense, it's a good tool, and there's no reason not to use it. As long as you have a good habit of browsing the internet, you might not need another other Antivirus software alongside Windows Defender. Because the computer would run less efficiently when running one than Antivirus program.
