Hi everyone, I recently bought a DSLR camera and am thinking of maybe doing a one day course for beginners photography. Anyone any recommendations where I could do this

Dublin camera Club run a course in September for 10 weeks . its well worth doing.

They also run novice workshops every 2 weeks for members.

So after much procrastination, I have signed up for the Dublin Camera Club beginners course... The fee was very reasonable & the course is a whole 10 weeks. It's a huge time commitment & almost put me off registering... But I'm looking forward to it.

The other course I considered was one day, but cost more than 10 weeks with DCC...

Dublin Camera Club is great. I was a member for a time when I was back in Ireland. Everyone is friendly. You'll definitely benefit.

If they still have it, take up the offer of discounted membership.

You will get great theory and help in the 10 week course but going out with others and learning that way as well as putting forward images for judging really moves you along.

CabanSail, we still have it. We run the course for two main reasons:

To promote photography and share the knowledge and fun
    To help finance the club

A lot of people will join the club without doing the course. membership is €110 a year. For this, you get the weekly meetings/presentations and competitions (with judging and more importantly feedback from experienced photographers), outings and use of the club facilities. These include two darkrooms (for old fashioned film photography) and a studio with professional lights and backdrops. (some rules and limitations apply). You also get to attend bi-weekly Monday workshops free of charge. The club also arranges other workshops and training, given by outside bodies/photographers at discounted rates.

The way the discounted offer works is if you want to become a member you only pay an extra €50 over the cost of the course for the first years membership, which is reckoned to start on the first day of the course.

I don't think there is a better value proposition anywhere for people who want to learn about photography.

Full disclosure, I am a member of DCC and former council member. But don't let that put you off :)
