Hoping to visit Kilkenny in September on a Thursday and Friday night. Are the pubs pretty lively on these nights? Is the Left Bank more for the younger generation in the night time, or would a couple of older (late 40's) people be OK in there? Would like somewhere with live (not traditional) music?

Ryan's is usually good for live music and the crowd there tends to be older. Don't know if they will have a band on a Thursday but shoudl on a Friday. You could check their facebook or somethign to find out.

Left bank has a range of ages in my (albiet limited) experience.

You'd be grand in the left bank.

Left Bank usually has an older crowd downstairs and they have live bands playing at the weekends. Not sure about a Thursday night though.
