Hate new Job

I recently started working for a bank doing analytics. So far I found the culture there to be weirdly passive aggressive in terms of social interaction. Examples would be like holding a door for someone and they just ignore you walking past. At times I'd say 'Good morning' to people in my unit only to be stared at blankly with no response. Some people pretend like your not there. It's not always like that, and I do think there are people who are nice, but I can't help feel it's a cultural thing with the job. I'm a extroverted person but have felt shut out by others at times which makes me anxious. Also the training has been completely unguided and is very annoying because the job is complicated. It's like I'm expected to figure it out for myself. Normally I wouldn't mind figuring out the work but the drive to understand it is somewhat diminished because the work I feel is boring and not meaningful for what I value. That said, there hasn't been much pressure and the money is pretty good. But so far I hate getting up to go in especially on a Monday morning. I'm 30 and feeling like I can't really drop it. I suppose I'm not sure what I'm asking, but I had options to emigrate and also maybe go into another line of work or perhaps maybe doing a master's in something that takes me out of the office. I know it's probably abit vague but anyone who is or has been in a similar position, I would love to know what you think or what suggestions you might have.

    Thanks

I lasted two weeks in State Street in my early 30's. Nothing to do all day....was the longest two weeks of my life. Had no other job lined up but just couldn't face it so walked. Probation is a two way street.

Yeah I heard similar stories about that place. Can I ask ye what your working at now??
I'm not cut out for office work I think, just kind of worrying that my degree in maths is mainly to do with office work and IT in general. I have worked in other offices that weren't as hard to get along with people. I think it could be cultural to banking in general. Just thinking you have to be fairly cut throat to get to anywhere of prominence in a bank and that vibe just feeds itself to other staff. Not saying all just in general.

You could use your maths in gaming they do analysis of stats etc. Vibe would be very different.

Have you worked in office's until recent and is it a case of being sick of it now?

Gaming? What as in video games? I'd say it would be pretty competitive?

I worked in the civil service but that was to cover a temporary vacancy. That was pretty enjoyable. People were sound or at least the job culture was much more friendly. Although I would say long term I wouldn't like working in an office. I might have to go back and get more training.

    Don't know. Probably.

Like every where else they analyze their data and customers and games are often run from tables of data.

Any job that is lucrative, interesting, or not boring is always going to be harder and competitive to get into. That's life.

Ah yeah thanks for the advice. Appreciate it. The job in and of itself isn't too bad, just the culture socially is abit strange. But yeah that could be because of the nature of the job.

I know what you mean though. Some places the business culture and social interactions just suit different kinds of people.
