Earlier today at around 7pm whilst I was in the back garden a baby hedgehog appeared at my feet. I have always had hedgehogs but this year they've been quite scarce. So I watched him for about 20 mins and no sign of Mam but he seemed to want my attention. So I picked him up and he cried for Mam. No sign of Mam again. He cried again and no sign. So I put him into a shoebox with a towel for warmth and he drank some water too.
I'm no expert though I've held my fair share of hedgehogs in my time. Anyone point me in right direction? I don't want my kids to get attached to him either. I'll be getting cat food for him tomoro but I can't keep him. He's wild and I'd like it to remain so.

How many grams does it weigh? If he's really young and the rescue can't come and pick it up right away, for now you could try and give him full fat goats milk in a jam jar lid, it could be easier to get hold of than Esbilac puppy milk, which is the best thing for them (that's what I was told by the local hedgehog expert, and I got her number off one of the local rangers). Also it'll need some water and, if you can get hold it, some Hill's a/d restorative care wet food. If it's very young it'll need to be fed every couple of hours.

Hopefully they'll be able to get it today. The alternative is Hogsprickle.

PM me if you need more info, I can tell you all I was told to do.

    Any update dodderangler?
The little hog needs to be placed in the hands of a registered wildlife rehabilitator. It's actually illegal for members of the public to handle wild animals unless they have a license to do so.
New Home above has linked you to the two registered hedgehog rehabilitators in Ireland, both of whom have the necessary license and expertise. .. Please contact one of them asap. They know what they're at and that's what this little hog needs right now, as they can go downhill extremely quickly.
You should not give it Esbilac but goat's milk will do in an emergency, short term, until you deliver the hog into the correct hands.
