Toilet handle disconnected!

Inside the cistern the handle arm is connected to something like an underwater plastic piston, that controls the flushing mechanism, by a metal clip that is curved at both ends.This is after snapping, so I cant flush the toilet. This clip looks like some DIY job my late father done TBH. Anyone know what this part is called?

Just use some wire to do you in the meantime.

If the plastic isn't broken a piece of wire might do until you get a replacement (or for the next 10 years)
