I left a Company a while back and even though it was the right decision for me at that time, I would like to have the opportunity to work for that company again. Not going to name the company but it was Financial Services industry.

Im wondering is there a way to do such a thing or a period of time that should pass? Should I apply to an entirely different area of the company?

If you left the company on good terms with the management upon leaving, I'd say there's no harm in contacting them and asking is there a possibility of being re -hired. It's really up to the company themselves on a case -by - case basis. Best thing to do is contact them, explaining your situation, and see where it goes from there.

    Best of luck :)

I was rehired by a company i worked for before, if you were a good worker they will be happy to have you back in most cases

I would think most companies are quite open to it - so long as the reason you left is now addressed/no longer applies and you left on good terms. For sure there are some rare companies with "lifer" mentality that shun leavers but they are rare. But more typical is the likes of the Big 4 who welcome back ex-employees or use then to help fill roles.

From a companies perspective you already know the culture etc and are likely a good "fit" and are also cheaper to have up and running as you know they way of working.

From your perspective one of the biggest risks when you start a job is what your colleagues and the culture is like in there, no job interview or spec can address that. Hopefully you'll have a better idea having been there before. Good luck!

I’m a bit cautious about having too many moves on my CV but will aim to apply back within a year. My experience wasn’t really suited to where I was and I wasn’t there long enough to move internally but did leave on good terms

I worked with a software engineer who quit, went somewhere else, couldn't handle it, and came back.

Was he a little embarrassed about it? Yes.
Was the company happy to have an experienced software engineer back working for them again? Yes

So just go for it, and don't overthink it.
