Am sure that experts here can tell me what the bird is that basically has the one note?

Has been at it outside my window much of the day!

Johnny One Note! On and on! Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Happy bird..

And the sparrow nestlings sound very mature now.

Blackbird alarm call? They can go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on. Mrs. Doyle has nothing on them.

If it's a monotonous single note it's a House Sparrow.

Your smoke detector battery needs replacing? :)

As said previously it's most likely a house sparrow.

We have a Chaffinch that comes to our feeders, he just sits there going cheep, cheep, cheep... for ages.

First thing I thought of too :). I had 9 of them on the trellis beside the window the other morning. Had my head wrecked. I'd almost prefer a mob of young Starlings.

Very enjoyable birds to watch all the same.

    Agreed.

I have dozens, with a minimum of 11 nests in the roof. There is nothing to describe the call near the nest but a monotonous single note. If it's constantly chirping it shouldn't be difficult to have a look and see what it is.

Silence in birdland today. Not a one to be heard...
