one of my upper molar teeth 2nd from back broke off. never any pain or anything or no pain when it happened last night, no blood either. but noticed for the first time how discoloured (yellow it was) and traces of black in gumline.

absolutly shocked and disgusted at this happening, i always thought i took care of my teeth fairly well and was complimented a lot on having nice teeth/smile. anyway going to a dentist tomorrow to get it looked at. any advice for me on possible options from here?

i want her to have a look at the rest of my teeth as well and see do i need anything else, is this madness? am i giving the dentist free reign?!

A tooth broke, you need a check up, and you are asking if this is madness and are you giving a dentist "free reign"?, what advice are you looking for?

Root Canal and crown might be able to save it. Pure guesswork on my part.

Maybe you should just go to the dentist and see what they say. It'll start to hurt a lot quite soon anyway more than likely so you will need to.

What is the question here? Dentists always look at all your teeth if they are doing a checkup, what you do with the information is up to you.

Your dentist can only tell you whats wrong and give you a course of proposed treatment, whether you do it is up to you. Nobody every wants to spend money on dentistry, its always a grudging spend....hide that from the dentist, they are people too, and dont like being made feel that your cross with them because your dental problems cost money to fix.

My attitude after multilple fillings and root canals since around 2008 when a load of teeth developed problems (after a decade of pure neglect in my teens) is that if you need the work get it done.

Dentists are extremely expensive and will tell you they are doing all sorts of favours on price when they aren't, and very slow to give any sort of discount as a rule. But in my experience they don't lie about treatment needed and I've seen enough of them to know that you'd have to be unlucky for this to happen.

Get them checked, save the molar if you can too because it's one of only 8-12 teeth that can chew properly and extremely useful. Plus you don't have to get part of your head amputated with a pair of fancy pliers.

Dentists are required to display prices and give transparent treatment plans and quotes, there is no requirement to give discounts and "favours on price" are easy to see, you are either being charged full price or discounted price, I don't see how they "claim" to be doing something which you can easily check in their waiting room or on their website.
