    Fly to Warsaw and get the train to Krakow?
    To be fair, part of the reason Ryanair are cheap is because they fly at the crappy times. It's hard to avoid them.

    October, maybe Munich given its Oktoberfest but accommodation will be extremely limited at this late stage.

    Prague is the most like Krakow from the places that's been listed so far.

    Budapest is a great city, cheap, lots to do, plenty of nightlife. & it's a great looking city!

    The buda side of budabest is simply stunning.

    I'd recommend Budapest along with the others. Check out the ruin bars
