So; If I Drop Dead, Now ....?

Just replying to a mate in the US. Like me, he lives alone. Middle of no where. 'Quarterly' sort of level of contact with only living relatives. His health is spiraling down :(

Bit disturbing. We're both of a certain age. Both only known to eachother, really, through many years of one to one, internet contact. No one else even knows we know each other. Now, one or the other of us could just shuffle off. Any time.

Just wondering; Is there any established way for getting this stuff out there? Anyone else came up with a plan of letting that 'Name in the address book' know ye'd gone?

Mods; If ye know a better place for this? Do it!

Despite not being of that age yet, I have a friend who maintains a folder of "what to do when I'm dead" for his wife and family. It started due to his previous company providing a very generous death policy whereby if an employee pops his clogs the family get quite a large sum of money however they only get this if the insurance company is notified within a very short time, 24Hrs if I remember correctly, of the event. He has all details of who to inform, what type of funeral he'd like, what bank account, assurance policies, passwords to his online accounts etc etc.

It's a very good idea, must get around to doing it some day before it's too late....

Give each other the number of someone who would know if anything happened to either of you.
If neither of you hear from each other for longer than usual you call the number.

    OP,

if you dropped dead now we'd find your computer and your internet browsing history that you haven't deleted

    Morto! :pac:

Have thought of stuff along this lines before. Best I can come up with is an email or message that you compose and then schedule for delivery in a month, for example. Then you recall or delete the message before the month is up, and then schedule again. If you die before you recall it, it just goes to the recipient. "If you are reading this, then I am dead.....etc"

Cant find any software or ap to do this, however. If anyone knows something that might fit, please post here...

An expensive alternate might be a letter sent to solicitor with instructions to open and execute when your death is in papers..... Make it easy for the guy, and go in style so they report it on front page!

Most people don't prepare for this sort of stuff or even think about it to be honest lest they have to confront mortality but having a think about what if scenarios and updating when necessary takes very little time and makes you more prepared if it does happen.

    https://www.deadmansswitch.net/

That might work for the pair of you. It asks you to confirm you're still alive from time to time, and if you don't, it will send the emails.

^^^ That is bloody brilliant! Dead Mans Switch. I'll have some of that!

Sounds like the premise of a typically shítty Adam Sandler film

Genuinely, that's a business idea. A company that can notify everyone through email/text automatically should hey be notified if your death

Edit: Read thread first before posting
