I am not an autism support worker but know some so I will pop on and hopefully people working in the job answer your questions soon. You generally visit the homes of families with a child with asd (probably adults too but the people I know work with children) and work with them on this goals and priorities for their child. You support the parents goals by providing appropriate resources (such as visuals), guidance and help them become aware of who to ask for different queries - some might be for OT/SLT/etc. I have seen ASWs work with the children on activities to aid engagement, speech, etc. I think the hours are 9-5ish (depending on how many families you are working with it might be less) and I don’t think they work weekends. They spend about an hour with the child generally twice a week but that depends on how many hours the child gets allocated. I think the money is low enough from what they have told me and some of those I have spoken to have level 6 qualifications in childcare etc. It seems like a very rewarding job. I hope that is all accurate enough - I am open to correction from people working in this area just said I’d get the thread going as I have outsider knowledge of the area.

Thanks Julie101 for your reply, that is a great help. I am due to start this job at end of month so just want to be a bit prepared for the training and shadowing.. Thanks again.
