Hi all, my husband is on disability allowance and I get the carer's allowance for looking after him. I am about to start working the 15 hours that i am allowed to work and this won't affect my carer's allowance but will it affect my husbands disability allowance? When I googled it, it was a bit vague in the website, saying the first 20 euro per day is disregarded and then 60% of something else is also taken but it's not specific and gives no examples of course so I'm just hoping it's actually worth my while working at all.Any insight?

To be honest, I have no idea.

Have you tried using the Benefit of Work Estimator?

The means test for DA is as follows. a maximum of 60 Euros is disregarded. and the 60% of the balance. so for example you earn 120 for 3 days . 60 euros is disregarded = 60 x 60% (of the balance) = giving a weekly means of 21.60 on the rates of payment this would give a payment of €178 of DA . This is the basic calculation on what you googled. There is a lot of variations that would come in to play is the 15 hours over three days two days.? then you would only be able to disregard 40 euros etc are you a qualified adult on his payment ( FROM CITIZEN INFORMATION If you are currently getting Carer’s Allowance and your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant is claiming another social welfare payment (for example, Jobseeker’s Allowance), your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant may claim an increase in their social welfare payment for you as a qualified adult and your Carer’s Allowance will be reduced by 50%. This can only be done with your consent but it may increase your total household income.).Have you dependent children.? You would be best off either ringing or calling into your local Citizen information and they can calculate the rate for you, Or calling the DA section and speaking to them. Contrary to poplar belief you will nearly always be better off working . There is only a very small percentage of cases that would be better claiming "dole"
