Lightroom catalog query - desktop with 2 hard drives

I've replaced my laptop which had a 500gb SSD with a new desktop with a 250gb SSD and 2TB HDD.

I've approx 150GB of Raw files, so I obviously don't want to immediately fill up the SSD, so it would be helpful if someone could confirm the below.

Once I reinstall LR and transfer the licence to the new desktop (onto the SSD), I can save all the raw files themselves to the HDD, and then save the catalog onto the SSD - my understanding is that LR only works on the catalog rather than the files themselves, so I should still be benefitting from the faster speed of the SSD when processing and exporting?

That's fine for transferring over the existing files and catalog. However, when it comes to importing new files, will LR catalog the new imported images into the catalog on the SSD even if I import the files directly to the HDD?

Yes, as far as I know this is how it works. LR will still need to read the HDD for the files and the actual image data but it should still be pretty fast.

I have my LR catalog on an SSD and the RAW files on a USB3 drive backed up to the cloud. Lightroom is still very fast, with no noticeable delay when moving between images.

Yes - no problem keeping the raw files on a separate drive. However, there is also a Lightroom Cache which stores the preview/rendered version of the files. This can also be on another drive.
