As an aside, has anyone had any dealings with etravel.ie ?

basically I booked flights with etravel.ie and got a confirmation email and the full amount €1100+ was deducted from my card. Got a subsequent email saying that the fare had gone up and they were unable to complete the booking. Apart from the fact that I don't understand why the money was deducted when the flight wasn't booked I have made a bunch of calls to them looking for a copy of the credit card receipt without any joy.
    Any ideas?

how did you book flights with them ? They dont even have a booking engine on their website .
I see they come up when looking for long haul flights on the likes of skyscanner, but you cant book flights directly with them.

as for your current problem, if they arent responding to email or the phone then you can charge back your credit card via your bank but that would be a last resort.

I was on skyscanner and selected the flight there which brought me on to the etravel.ie site. The rest I have explained above. Just waiting now for the money to come back on my card. Just don't understand how/why they would deduct the money without completing the booking.

debit or credit card ? if the former, it means the funds are ring fenced and will drop off automatically in a few days.

What does 'drop off automatically' mean?

What does 'drop off automatically' mean?

self explanatory - it means the ring fenced funds will be released back into your account by the merchant bank

Thanks, although 'released back into your account' is a bit more self explanatory than 'drop off automatically'

Got the money back and lesson well and truly learned, won't ever have any dealings with that crowd again.

    Booked flights through e-Travel twice.

    Never got a single problem.

Looks like you were just unlucky.

OTA are fine if your flights are straightforward or you don't need to change or alter the booking in any way. But heaven forbid you need to make a change/or the airline makes a change - this is where customer service goes out the window. By booking direct with the airline you cut out the middleman and should there be a schedule change there's one less layer to deal with.

I'm happy for you. But if you did have a problem and have to ring them then you get a 'tough ****' response.
