We are looking to buy a 3 bed log House to live in. We have looked a few different companies. Does anyone have any experience of any companies that you would recommend or not?

Will do but I was looking on advise on which companies are more reputable.
There are many places doing log houses now and I don't want to get stung in a few years if they are not around any more. I'm sure some are more reliable than others.

There are exactly zero places doing log houses that comply with the building regulations.*

    * Apologies - that may come across as a bit harsh. OP if it was possible for cheap log houses to comply with the building regulations everyone would be installing them but when you ask these companies they will fill you with all sorts of **** to cover over the fact that what they are selling is an upmarket garden shed rather than a compliant house.

Specifically tell them your engineer needs to see how the house complies with Part L and Part B of the building regulations so that you can draw down your mortgage and watch them back rapidly away.

must say, I don't see many wood homes in Ireland or maybe im not looking closely enough

two things id be asking myself, how does the wood hold up to Irelands damp climate and are there any known termite problems in Ireland?

There are quite a number of log houses in cavan, particularly along the border as these tend to be on the banks of the Erne and the Woodford . They don't tend to suffer from damp but heating them in the winter would be an issue if the insulation is not properly installed. Is an estate of Scandinavian style houses called riverrun that look terrific but I imagine could skin you in the frost

Why do people post when they haven't a clue what they are talking about?

There are no reputable log cabin companies supplying legal habitable houses.

I haven’t come across any yet and the ones I have come across have big disclaimers about them not been habitable.

I currently have 2 sites that got stung with them recently and they cannot comply with our fire regs in particular as the whole structure is fire wood!

Not a single mention of the building regulations on any of the three websites!

Please read the forum charter we don’t advertise/list companies that could then be commented on

checked the names - it doesn’t seem any meet building regs, but then their only giving you a timber frame with several offering cheap cladding & roofing.

As others have said, Planning & building regs compliance will be a challenge for most people

    They are glorified garden sheds.
