Happened out of the blue a few days ago, it takes a reboot to allow sending and receiving which isn't very practical.

    Any thoughts?

Are you using any anti virus / vpn apps?

Power saver on? Data saver on?

I know my brother-in-law had a similar problem, and he had turned off background data accidentally.

Had a similar issue a week or two ago and I had to delete the relevant Google account from the device and then add it again. It has been ok since.

I don't really know where to find the settings (middle aged doddery type when it comes to smartphones) for power settings or data. I'm using 4.2.2 Jelly Bean which is a few years old.

In a general sense on Android if you pull down the top bar there will be a little gear symbol for settings and usually there are power, data and account sub menus within that.

The only thing is I'm not sure if that pull down option was available as far back as Jellybean. Others may be able to help you more.
