Does anyone know how to oppose the council building a 3 storey community centre within 20m of the back of my house?

I've also heard of people getting payouts for the loss in value/privacy of their house, is that true and is there anywhere to find information on it?

Do the council even need planning permission, on the 5th of May they published something saying they are building it, but there's no white sign up about planning permission.

Well saying as they will be applying to themselves for the planning permission, I'd be very surprised if they didn't grant it.

Part V or something similar is when the council is building themselves. The public notices should have been in local press and possibly on the site in question inviting observations.

Council can build themselves without going through the formal planning process.

Its known as a Part 8 Development.

As kceire said, notices would have been in the local press and a notice on site giving details of the development.

These details would have stated a development description, where plans were available to view, contact details to send a submission and a final date for receipt of submissions.

If it is a Part 8 development, you've probably already missed your chance to object.
The Regulations state that the time-span for public inspection must be for at least four weeks from the date of publication newspaper notice. If the Local Authority offices are closed at any time during the month of inspection for bank holidays, etc. then an additional day for each day of closure should be added to the inspection period.
The last date for observations/submissions must not be less than two weeks after the end of the inspection period. Again, allowance should be made for bank holidays etc.

It's a bit **** that you have to pay for the local press and read through the ****e just to make sure nobody builds a 3 story building at the end of your garden.

They should be required to send a letter to everyone in the immediate area.

There's no requirement in the legislation for that.

Same as a standard planning application, your neighbour could decide in the morning hes going to apply for permission to build a rear extension. There is absolutely no requirement for him to notify you specifically.

Once a site notice is in place and notice published in an approved publication then all is above board

Problem is there's no site notice either. Although the document I was emailed is dated 5th May but somewhere in it, it says that it will be published on the 5th of July so I might have a chance still.
