Does downgrading your upcoming car insurance renewal from fully comp to third party fire and theft affect your ncd going forward. I'm considering doing this as insurance quotes are very high lately.

Absolutely not. My mam went from comp to tpft this year as she has an 06 car not worth a whole lot and a €300 xs before she even begins to make a claim. In her case didn’t make much sense to retain comp cover

NCD is the same if you have TP Only, TPFT or Comprehensive. For an extremely cheap car to replace there no point having more than TP really - often the unused motor tax is the most valuable component (followed by tyres if a new set) and it can be recovered if stolen or destroyed.

    Sometimes there's very little difference.

Always give the current value of the car and not an inflatated value (take 10% off the price you see on carzone)

Try adding someone as an additional named driver. A partner or parent - this can drop insurance by 25%

See if you are giving the most boring version of your work - there are probably 3 or 4 job descriptions that you could choose from without fibbing.

Then if you get a quote you like, ring them and ask if they can do better - you'd be very surprised at what can be done. Having the right approach can knock another 10-15% off. (jovial chatting approach - make them want to give you an extra discount)
