Any suggested site for buying shares?

    I'm interested buying shares to receive dividends rather than trading on their market value.
    I have DeGiro.com for trading.
    Is there a program/site that will allow my buy (and sell) shares for investing rather than trading or does this have to be done through a stock broker?

    What is wrong with DeGiro? You can buy and hold.

    I've never actually used degiro but my understanding was degiro was for trading only. I didn't think you could buy shares to get dividends. If I buy and hold on degiro will I get dividends every 3,4 or 6 months?

    No DeGiro is great for buy and hold. Most companies pay dividends 3 monthly. I have had no issues with dividends just being added to my account

    Thanks, I wasn't aware that's how it worked. I do own a few share but they were bought the old fashioned way.

    Follow up query;

    Is there a minimum time you have to hold shares before dividends payout?

    Whoever owns the stock on the ex-dividend date gets the dividend. Buy before it and you get it, buy after and the seller gets it.

    You only have to hold them on the ex-dividend date, which you can find on dividend.com for US stocks or Yahoo Finance.

    So you can buy the the day before if you so desire but remember that there may be dividend taxes, so you usually don't get the full amount.
