Looking to change career

    Hi all,
I've been giving a lot of thought to my future in recent months. I'm a manager of several teams around the world at an international data company. We provide data-related products to businesses in the area of competitive intelligence. I'm also heavily involved in operational improvement projects and lead a number of projects.

My concern is that I have devoted my entire working life to this business and I have not really done much to look for other roles outside the business. That is something I need to rectify in the coming month. There is not a lot of risk over my role but if something happens in the next 18 months, I need to be in a far position regarding my options than I currently am, which is unprepared, clueless and way behind the times.

For example, I have no Linkedin page. I never had a need for it. I have not upskilled externally since I left University in 2000 because I completed courses internally instead. I'm pretty sure my degree is useless now.

So I need to rectify this.

I guess the first thing I need is a highly recommended career guidance company. I need to identify the roles I am suitable for and which skills can be transferred. Has anyone a recommendation? I am based in Limerick but would travel.

I also need to see what courses would compliment my management skills to make me more marketable. Anyone with any suggestions?

I'll probably have more questions and thoughts but I wanted to open it out for discussion.

Why not do a data analytics or data science course?

No degree is ever useless. Its a great starting point, you've loads of experience. Leverage on the positives.

Have a browse around. See what you have, what you'd like and fill in any gaps needed to get to that position.

    Hope thishelps.

This was the first thing that sprung to my mind too.

Also ask yourself what interests you? What skills have you? No job is every 100% fit for a candidate, so if you see a job that interests you, even though you may not have all the requirements, you still have substantial experience that you can bring to the table.

I'm currently training as a Green Belt for Lean/SS so that is a skill I can use in any process-orientated role. Any other immediately transferable skills or management courses that would be of value?
