Just wondering if anyone has gone the custom route and any advice for keeping costs low? I have a good idea what I want but can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for it!

There are a few quite reputable tailors in China that specialize on Custom made dresses for small money.
I don't know if I can name them here but I'll send you a PM.

For your own sake have you tried on the style you want to ensure it suits you?

What I got and what I thought I was getting was very different.

My SIL ordered off Etsy but the shop and seller vanished in the run-up to the Wedding and wasn't answering emails. The dress then arrived all ok but a lot of stress thinking they had gone bust so be careful.

I went to a dressmaker in Belfast for my dress. Told her my budget and she worked with me to create a totally unique dress that I was happy with. I was very pleased with the process.

What budget are we talking? I love this idea but would have thought it would be far more expensive than something from a shop?

Well the main reason I went to a dressmaker is because my budget was so tight. She worked with me but it was about as low as she could go. My budget was £700.

My budget is similar! I just know what I want and I know I won't find what I want off the shelf! Would you mind PMing me the dressmaker you went with?

Wanted to update on this! Thanks to everyone who PMed me. A local friend recommended a dress maker who had done his wife's dress. Myself and my mother went along. She was brilliant, she looked up the designer dress that had caught my attention. Then I tried on a few dresses till we found the style I liked. It cost 1300. Just to encourage more to go with a dressmaker! I had assumed it would run into 3000 or more to get a dress made!
