SkyQ installation questions

    Hi,

    Query 1
I'm looking for some 4K quality HDMI cabling that is suitable to feed through a small length of conduit.

Basically the setup is that TV sits on a marble shelf and underneath is a letterbox style opening for what would have been a VCR, but will now be a SkyQ box. To get the cabling from the box up to the TV there is a small length of conduit (no more than 2ft and no bends) up to a faceplate.

What I was going to do for the person was replace the faceplate with a brush plate and run a small headed HDMI cable up through the conduit.

As they are getting in SkyQ multi-room and have a 4K TV, a 4K HDMI cable would be better.

Are there any recommended HDMI cables which would suit this task? At a guess I would think 2m - 3m would be required to allow it to loop up and give some flex for attaching/removing.

    Query 2
There is re-existing cabling in this house from the dish to the attic just above the TV point where they feed into a diseqc.

One of the two cables currently in the room at the point is not working correctly - I suspect it is the joint in the room under the TV. I suggested to the owner to pull down a new length of shotgun now at this stage before the installer comes. Reason being is it fiddly to do and the installer would not have time/patience to do it properly.

Would this have to be continuous out to the LNB or could it be jointed in the attic? I know that SkyQ is a bit more temperamental when it comes to signal strength/quality - as the install in my parents house required the face plates to be removed.

    Thanks.

I don't see why the signal would be more 'tempermental': if the faceplates were the type that can handle satellite & terrestrial signals on the same cable, the sat. ports wouldn't pass the full output of the wideband LNB, so they'd have to go for that reason alone.

Installer told me they were having lots of problems with face plates for Sky Q. Also read on the Sky forum that there were issues.

The faceplates were dedicated F connectors like shown below:

Hi can anyone offer advice on how to get the 4K signal from the box to the TV?

It has been suggested to that I use HDMI > Cat5e adaptor and run it through a network lead. However, any HMDI > Cat5e adaptors that I've seen for 4K resolution are very costly.

Another option was a HDMI > mini HMDI cable and then a single mini HDMI > HDMI adaptor. However, I was told there would be increased losses across this method.

The reason I want to get it in 4K is they have a 4K TV and are getting Sky Q Multiroom installed - which give them 4K.

    Any advice appreciated.

You've got the choice of either 1) a very expensive solution or 2) a very cheap solution.

Why not try 2 and see what the picture quality is like?

OP, I’m not sure why you’re trying to reinvent the wheel here. What’s wrong with a HDMI cable again?

Additionally, if you really do want to reinvent the wheel...consider what you’re getting in terms of 4K content....Premier League games (except Saturday 3pm) and Formula One races are it as far as sporting content is concerned. There’s a couple of dramas on Sky One/Atlantic too. Not sure about how much of the Sky Cinema catalogue is 4K. And er...that’s it. There’s no 4K on any non Sky branded channels except for a planned BBC test for the last few days of Wimbledon that may not even be available to irish viewers.

As I wasn't getting a response on here, I posted on this site and they were leaning towards the other approach, which I was not happy with costwise. Hence, why I bumped this thread again:

It won't fit into 20mm conduit.

I had seen that one. However, it is not as svelte as it appears judging by the questions. Certainly not enough to be fed through 20mm conduit :(
Question: What are dimensions of the connecter?
Answer: It is a total of 47mm long, 21mm width, 10mm thick.

Micro HDMI cable? Use an adapter to convert back to standard HDMI.
